There are moments in life where you just know you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. For our family, standing inside the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, looking at the Dead Sea Scrolls, after waking up to an unobstructed ocean view at Malibu RV Resort… was one of those moments.

This is why we road school.

From Ocean Views to Ancient History

We stayed at Malibu RV Resort, and if you’ve never experienced waking up with a full, unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean outside your window… it’s something everyone should experience at least once. Our evenings were spent walking the beach, letting the kids run in the sand, and even having dinner right on the shoreline as the sun dipped into the ocean.

Then, just a short drive away, we stepped into thousands of years of history.

One day we were watching waves crash. The next, we were standing face-to-face with artifacts from the Holy Land.

That contrast is the magic of roadschooling.

The Dead Sea Scrolls: Bringing the Bible to Life

Seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls in person was powerful—not just for us as adults, but for our kids. These weren’t pictures in a book. These weren’t stories on a page.

These were real, physical pieces of ancient Scripture. Real fragments handled by real people, preserved across centuries.

As Christian parents, being able to show our children tangible evidence of biblical history is priceless. It deepens their faith, strengthens their understanding, and connects them to history in a way no worksheet ever could.

This is hands-on learning at its finest.

Why We Love the Reagan Library (And Keep Coming Back)

We absolutely love the Reagan Library. Our kids never get tired of it—and honestly, neither do we.

It is hands-down one of the best Presidential Libraries for kids in the entire country.

Why?

Because it’s not just a museum you walk through.

It’s a museum you experience.

The Reagan Library is packed with interactive exhibits where kids can:

• Walk through Air Force One
• Sit in Reagan’s Oval Office
• Step into recreated historical settings
• Engage with hands-on displays that explain complex geopolitical concepts in kid-friendly ways

They literally get to stand in Reagan’s shoes.

And the exhibits are always changing.

We’ve seen:

• The Star Wars exhibit, exploring the movies and their relationship to Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative and Cold War geopolitics with the Soviet Union
• The Dead Sea Scrolls
• And many more rotating exhibits that keep the experience fresh every single visit

It never feels repetitive. It always feels new.

And for kids? That matters.

Teaching History the Way It Was Meant to Be Taught

One of the reasons we chose homeschooling—and ultimately roadschooling—is because we wanted our children to truly understand history, not just memorize dates.

At the Reagan Library, they don’t just learn that Ronald Reagan was president. They learn:

• Why the Cold War mattered
• What communism was (and is)
• Why freedom is fragile
• How leadership decisions impact the entire world

These are big concepts. Important concepts. And when they’re taught through immersive, interactive exhibits, kids get it.
