Join Copper State Road Schoolers for an Arizona Family Field Trip Weekend
There’s something special about learning where history happened—or in this case, where dinosaurs once left their mark.
This September, Copper State Road Schoolers is heading to the Dinosaur Tracks near Tuba City for a relaxed weekend of exploration, fellowship, and hands-on learning. Whether you’re a longtime homeschooling family, new to roadschooling, or simply looking for a unique educational adventure, we’d love to have you join us.
Our goal isn’t to pack every minute with scheduled activities. Instead, we’re creating an opportunity for families to explore together, build friendships, and enjoy one of Arizona’s most fascinating outdoor classrooms at a comfortable pace.
Weekend Details
Dates: September 25–27, 2026
Main Field Trip: Saturday, September 26
Location: Dinosaur Tracks near Tuba City, Arizona
Most families will arrive Friday afternoon or evening, spend Saturday together exploring the Dinosaur Tracks, and head home Sunday morning.
Whether you choose to stay the entire weekend or simply join us for Saturday’s field trip, you’re welcome!
About the Dinosaur Tracks
Located just outside Tuba City on the Navajo Nation, the Dinosaur Tracks are one of northern Arizona’s most fascinating natural attractions. Visitors can observe preserved dinosaur footprints while learning about fossils, paleontology, geology, and the natural processes that preserve evidence in the rock.
There’s no substitute for experiencing these remarkable tracks in person. Students will have the opportunity to observe, ask questions, explore the surrounding landscape, and experience one of Arizona’s most unique outdoor classrooms.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about:
- Paleontology
- Fossils and fossilization
- Geology and rock formations
- Scientific observation
- Arizona’s natural history
- Desert ecosystems
- Arizona geography
- Navajo Nation history and culture
Where We’re Staying
Many of our families will be staying together at NavajoLand Hotel & RV Park in Tuba City. (We’ll be staying in the RV park).
Accommodations include:
- Full-hookup RV sites
- Pull-through and back-in RV spaces
- Tent camping
- Hotel rooms
If you’d like to stay with the group, we encourage booking early while sites and rooms are still available.
Of course, you’re also welcome to stay elsewhere or make this a day trip.

A Relaxed Weekend Together
One of the best parts of these weekends isn’t just the destination—it’s the people.
We’re intentionally keeping the schedule light so families have time to visit, kids can make new friends, and everyone can enjoy the weekend without feeling rushed.
In addition to our Saturday field trip, we’ll likely organize one or more optional gatherings depending on interest, such as:
- Lunch before heading to the Dinosaur Tracks
- Ice cream or a playground meetup afterward
- An informal evening gathering, such as a campground BBQ, potluck, local restaurant dinner, or s’mores (weather and campground rules permitting)
These activities are completely optional. Join what works for your family and enjoy the weekend at your own pace. Better yet, help us cater this event to our community members:

The Dinosaur Tracks are located on the Navajo Nation.
As guests, we’ll be respectful of the land, local customs, businesses, and cultural sites. We ask everyone attending to help leave the area just as we found it so others can enjoy this incredible place for years to come.
