Saturday, July 18
Join us for an unforgettable evening beneath one of America’s most iconic landmarks.
This year’s Red, White & Road Schooling meet-up will center around the Mt. Rushmore Evening Lighting Ceremony, a moving patriotic program that brings families together to celebrate our nation’s history and the ideals upon which it was founded.
History comes alive when children can experience it in person, and there’s no better classroom than standing beneath Mount Rushmore as the memorial is illuminated against the South Dakota night sky.
Whether you’re road schooling across the country, homeschooling from home, or simply vacationing in the Black Hills, we’d love to have you join us for an evening of history, fellowship, and patriotic inspiration.
Tentative Schedule
Around 7:00 PM – Meet at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial
Arrive early to explore the memorial, visit the exhibits and museum, walk the Presidential Trail, take family photos, and find seating before the evening program begins.
Optional Group Dinner
If there’s enough interest, we’ll organize an informal dinner nearby before heading to the memorial together. Be sure to let us know on the interest form if you’d like to join us.
Approximately 9:00 PM – Evening Lighting Ceremony
As the sun sets, gather with us for one of the Black Hills’ most memorable traditions. The patriotic evening program concludes with the illumination of Mt. Rushmore—a fitting way to celebrate our nation’s history alongside other homeschooling and roadschooling families.

Everyone Is Welcome
This is an informal community meet-up rather than a guided tour or organized travel event. Families are welcome to explore at their own pace while enjoying the evening with other homeschooling and roadschooling families.
Whether this is your first event with Copper State Road Schoolers or you’ve joined us before, we’d love to meet you.
We hope you’ll join us beneath the faces of four American presidents for an evening of friendship, learning, and patriotic inspiration.
We’ll see you at Mt. Rushmore on Saturday, July 18!
